Since the reign of King Rama IV and Rama V, Thai art society has learnt and adopted the sculpture techniques from the foreign countries to be a part of Thai art and culture. The Italian sculptor came to make a portrait sculpture of King Rama V in Thailand, meanwhile, increased the number of foreign engineers and architects particularly those from Italy. The arrival of Mr.Corrado Feroci in 1923, who eventually became the curriculum setter of School of Fine Art and one of the founders of Silpakorn University, created the crucial grounding for modern art in this country. On the basis of academic art from Academy of Fine Art in Florence, the making of realistic portrait sculpture has penetrated in Thai society ever since.
